Vripack Designs Dramatic 79-Foot Project Meteor

Vripack, the Dutch yacht design firm, just unveiled plans for its 79-foot Project Meteor yacht that has more than its share of head-turning and fresh-thinking features.

The yacht has been developed with Van der Valk, the Dutch builder that usually produces larger yachts, and recently has built several explorer yachts. Van der Valks are known to be safe, comfortable, and efficient.

The new, champagne-colored Project Meteor yacht has, among other things, a folding-out aft deck and a transom glass door as part of its beach club affect at the stern, and a tender garage under a hatch on the foredeck. It also has two sliding roofs, walk-around decks and a foredeck lounge over the garage.

For performance, Vripack says that Project Meteor has a 41-knot top speed, helped by foils that deploy automatically at about 20 knots.

Vripack designed the yacht for an owner who wants to drive his own vessel to his weekend retreat as quickly as possible. He also wants it to be safe and secure for his young family, with an easy flow throughout the interior and lots of interior volume.

At anchor, the sloping deck aft opens up for the beach club, and the entire main deck is on the same level, so guests can move easily from the swim platform to the main salon with a dining area and bar (pictured above). The helm station is raised. Below, two guest cabins have queen berths set at angles to provide views out the hull-side windows.

The fit and finish are fully superyacht quality, with a mix of satin and gloss finishes and gunmetal black diamond stitched leather and blue velvet surfaces. Read more:
