Lazzarini’s Latest: 65-Foot Royal Alpha One

You can’t say that Pierpaolo Lazzarini, 40, the head of the Lazzarini Design Studio in Rome, doesn’t have an active imagination. Indeed, in the past few years he’s designed yachts that like Ferraris, like airplanes, and one unlike anything else because it had a hole in the middle.

The one thing these projects had in common is that none of them ever got off the ground. The only Lazzarini yacht design that has been built is the egg-shaped Jet Capsule. Now, Lazzarini has taken that basic concept to its logical conclusion (for him): A futuristic 65-foot, $4 million Royal Alpha One three-deck yacht with a glass-bottomed hot tub on the top deck and a sloping foredeck with lots of photochromic glazing and carbon-fiber composition.

The interior of the Royal Alpha One was inspired by the interiors of private jets, with a minimalist aesthetic, lots of open spaces and lots of luxury leather sofas and chairs for relaxing. There are three staterooms, plus a crew cabin, below, all with en suite heads; the galley also is down there.

But the main event is up top. The Jacuzzi has a retractable glass bottom; push a button and the guests in the salon can look up at people swimming in the tub or, if no one’s using it, all the way up to the heavens. There’s also a lounging area on the upper deck, before it slopes forward to the bow.

All the way aft, the swim platform retracts, and the garage can hold a RIB (not a Jet Capsule) for going ashore.

Powered by twin Volvo 725-hp IPS950 pod drives, the Royal Alpha One is expected to top out at about 40 knots and have a range of about 600 nm. Hydrogen power also is available if an owner does not want to leave a carbon footprint behind. Read more at  http://lazzarinidesignstudio.com and see the video below:
