The Doug Zurn-designed Daychaser 48 Down East day boat will be launched this spring by Boston BoatWorks. The Daychaser is being built exclusively for members of the Barton & Gray Mariners Club.

The boat is made for a perfect day on the water. It was designed by Zurn Yacht Design in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and built by Boston BoatWorks, in Charlestown, Massachusetts.

“We think the high level of detail and foresight that went into the design will satisfy Barton & Gray’s ever-expanding membership,” Zurn said.

The new Daychaser is basically an entertainment platform, built for picnics, cocktail outings, and day cruises. With Hamilton water jets, it draws just 2’ 1” so it can navigate, safely, in thin water. Power comes from twin 550-hp Cummins diesels, producing a top speed of 37 knots.

The 16-degree deadrise at the transom will ensure a stable ride. The boat’s low air draft of just 11 feet means it can slide under most bridges in Florida or the low country.

The boat has a fine fit and finish, and social zones throughout. The bow seating lounge gives guests a view underway, and it also provides a privacy zone if the boat is tied up stern-to a dock.

The bridge deck has twin helm chairs, elevated for clear sightlines while driving. There’s a service bar and galley to port and a U-shaped settee to starboard. Farther aft is more seating, and even hidden, deployable, boarding steps. A large head is below, with a small nav station and a spot to lie down. The boat is certified for 12 people.

Boston BoatWorks is a world leader in high-tech construction. It has built more than 320 yachts in the past 25 years.

For his part, Zurn has designed more than 550 power and sail boats since 1993, specializing in a Down East style. One of the most highly regarded designers in the U.S., he’s designed boats for MJM, Marlow, Derecktor, Hylas, Williams, Vanquish, Lyman-Morse, NEB, Duffield, and others. He designed the Shelter Island Runabout, and Billy Joel’s 57-foot commuter, Vendetta.

The Barton & Gray Mariners Club was started in 2006 in Nantucket. It now has more than 50 yachts (mostly Hinckleys) with captains in almost 30 harbors across the U.S. Sandy Spaulding, the former CEO of Hinckley, is chairman of Barton & Gray.
