An 88-foot Sanlorenzo yacht caught fire and burned in Puerto de Valencia, Spain, a few days ago. Port authorities said the fuel tanks, with a capacity of 2,457 gallons of diesel, were not affected, and no one was injured in the fire. (See a video of the fire below.)

Orange and black smoke poured from the yacht, offering a stark contrast with the Mediterranean blue waters. It took three platoons of firefighters 12 hours to put out the fire. The yacht, named Pesa, was launched in 2020.

Local reports said that fire officials thought the fire may have been caused by a battery failure, with the resulting heat and fire spreading quickly through the yacht’s fiberglass hull. Authorities planned to recover the diesel fuel, even though the stern of the boat settled underwater once the fire was out.

Port authorities said there was no contamination of water in the northern section of the marina where Pesa was docked, and no damage to other yachts.

Pesa can carry eight passengers and three crew. It’s powered by three 800-hp Volvos, with a top speed of 23 knots. The yacht is offered for charter in the Mediterranean, particularly in France, Italy and Spain. The charter rate is 70,000 Euros a week, which is the equivalent of $76,135 USD.
