JFA, the high-end French yard, just unveiled its stunning new Long Island 86 power, a large, luxurious, cruising catamaran with an aluminum hull and composite superstructure. You can order the Long Island 86 with conventional or hybrid propulsion.

The new 86 comes after the company launched the first of its Long Island series, a 78, and it’s a similar yacht, just stretched. Marc Lombard, who designed the cats for JFA, says, “Long Island catamarans are simple, efficient, seaworthy, and refined.”

The 86-foot yacht makes use of its 39-foot beam to create impressive, light-filled living spaces on all three decks, with a bright and open interior. It has four cabins below, capable of holding eight people, plus crew quarters for up to four more.

The Jacuzzi on the foredeck is one focal point. Another is the outsized flybridge with a helm station, a sheltered bar, and dining and lounging areas. Hull number one is open, but you can order an enclosed flybridge for all-weather protection and comfort.

Aft, the super-sized swim platform between the two hulls can be raised to be level with the aft deck, creating a vast social area aft of the salon. It also can be lowered to sea level for launching and retrieving the tender, and so guests can enjoy water sports.

The aft deck itself is protected overhead by an extension of the flybridge, and has a bar, sun pads and a settee facing a teak table for al fresco dining and entertaining. Wide side teak decks lead to the foredeck. The salon itself has several seating areas that create both public and private spaces.

The yacht is fitted with solar panels on the flybridge hardtop to provide enough power to run most of the house systems at anchor, reducing the need for a generator. The hybrid-propulsion version lets the yacht move around a harbor or between anchorages in what the company calls “a silent mode.”

JFA was founded in Brittany in 1993. Since then, it has made more than 30 new power and sail yachts, and completed more than 40 refits. Read more:
