Wayne Gretzky, probably the greatest hockey player of all time, and his wife, Janet, are now cruising on Lake Coeur d’Alene in Idaho on their new 340 HT Steinway mahogany boat from Coeur Custom there.

The Gretzkys actually took delivery of the boat last September, but then used it for just two days before closing their vacation house in Coeur d’Alene and heading south. This summer they’ll enter it at the Coeur d’Alene Antique and Classic Boat Festival, starting August 13.

The boat took 12 months to build, and it’s made of Sapele wood with 16 coats of varnish, white upholstery (chosen by Janet), and a state-of-the-art hardtop with an electric Bimini that stretches out over the rear seats.

Coeur Custom builds and renovates wooden boats. The Gretskys’ boat is hull number one in their new Steinway series, named after the iconic piano maker. Lake Coeur d’Alene is known for its classic wooden boats.

A Canadian, Gretzky spent 20 years as a player and coach in the National Hockey League; he still  holds the NHL record of 894 goals.

He says he likes to go fast on the ice, and his new boat will take him up to a 50 mph top speed on the water, powered by twin 430-hp Mercury gas inboards with Bravo 3 outdrives and joystick control.

Gretzky’s 340 HT has seating for 12 in the large U-shaped cockpit and open bow. It also has a walk-through transom, hydraulic swim platform, two fridges, sink, a side door for easy boarding, a cedar hanging locker, electric head, and underwater lights. The cushions have Gretzky’s hockey number 99 embroidered in them. The boat also carries the Canadian flag. Read more http://coeurcustoms.com and see the video below:
