XO Boats Unveils Rugged New DFNDR 8

XO Boats, the relatively new builder in Finland, just announced that it’s starting work on a 26-foot DFNDR 8 go-anywhere, all-purpose boat that will top out at 50 knots with twin outboards.

The new DFNDR 8, like other XO boats, has a rugged aluminum deep-V hull with a 23-degree deadrise at the transom. XO says it uses military-grade aluminum because it’s sturdy, sustainable, and easy to maintain. The DFNDR 8 is designed for owners who want to be able to go out in less-than-ideal conditions, and it will be fun to drive.

Indeed, Erkki Talvela, the CEO of XO Boats, says, “What sets the new DFNDR 8 apart from the competitors is definitely the phenomenal driving qualities under rough weather conditions.”

The DFNDR 8 joins XO Boats’ lineup of DSCVR and EXPLR models, all designed to evoke the company’s adventuresome spirit.

Standard power for the DFNDR 8 is a single 300-hp outboard, but options include twin 225-hp outboards and one 450-hp outboard. The projected 50-knot speed is with the twins.

The new boat comes with either “safari” walls or with enclosable side screens. There’s also an option for aft bulkhead with a sliding door.

The boat has a basic walkthrough layout, leading to a raised, mid-level deck forward that can be converted into a sun lounge. The passenger seats in the salon can convert into a bed for  two. The boat has a separate head.

The company says each boat can be customized a bit, with a larger galley for cruising, for example, or more seats for commuting. The basic design holds eight people.

Production will start this fall.
