New, All-Electric, Foiling PWC

The new Overboat 150F from Neocean, a French company, is an all-electric, foiling personal watercraft that starts to “fly” at 10 knots and has a top speed of about 20 knots. It’s meant to be an environmentally friendly alternative to gas-driven jet skis and PWCs.

The Overboat uses new technology to provide a lightweight, but stable, platform that foils above the surface, leaving no wake, emissions or virtually no noise behind. It also looks like a lot of fun to drive.

The 150F is 11 feet long and is powered by an 8kW electric motor with direct drive and a 70Ah, 48V battery. It has a range of 34 nm at 15 knots. The company also makes a 10-foot version, the 100F.

The new craft builds on the foiling technology first made popular by America’s Cup racing sailboats and then used more recently in a variety of recreational powerboats. The foils deploy easily once the Overboat starts to accelerate, and they provide a steady ride over the water. You can retract them if you want to explore shallow water.

The Overboat costs about $14,000, and it’s economical to run, with essentially no operating costs and little maintenance costs. Read more at http://neocean.com and see the video below:
