Azimut is building a new Magellano 66 cruiser with an updated version of the line’s Dual Mode hull that’s designed to be more fuel-efficient than ever while also reducing carbon emissions.

The 66 is the latest in Azimut’s long-range cruising Magellano fleet, that now includes a 43, a 25 Metri (82’) and the flagship 30 Metri (97’ 6”). Azimut started the Magellano series in 2009 at its plant in Viareggio, Italy.

The new 66 comes with three or four staterooms, plus a two-person crew quarters. It has three heads plus one for the crew.

Power comes from twin 850-hp MAN diesels, with a top speed of 23 knots and a cruising speed of 19 knots. The Dual Mode hull means it can operate in a displacement mode of 10 to 12 knots, with a range of about 1,100 nm.

The yacht has a double-chine hull, said to provide a comfortable ride even in rough conditions. The upper chine provides a larger beam at low speeds, ensuring dynamic stability. At higher speeds, the water flow separates from the lower chine, which is shaped to offer the least resistance possible.

Azimut says that from 15 to 22 knots the hull reduces carbon emissions by up to 20 percent, compared to a more traditional hard-chine hull. It also reduces fuel burn, adding to the range.

The new Magellano 66 also makes use of carbon fiber in the flybridge, the hard top and the swim platform to reduce weight.

Owners can choose between two options for the interior. The open plan has low furnishings so the galley and the helm station are always in at least partial view from the salon. In the Navetta option, the galley and helm are separate, providing more privacy for guests.

Up top, the flybridge has two helm seats on the starboard side, a super-sized U-shaped lounge and table to port, and a bar with stools a bit aft and a sun-lounging area all the way aft.

Below, the owner’s cabin is filled with light; there’s also a double cabin and a twin-berth cabin. A fourth guest cabin is optional.

Azimuts are sold by MarineMax in the United States.
