Holterman Shipyard in The Netherlands just launched its new X-Treme 78 Sport, the latest in its cruising yacht series. Powered by twin 1,000-hp Volvo IPS1350 pod drives, the new four-stateroom X-Treme tops out at more than 28 knots.

Holterman was founded in 1964 in Meppel, northeast of Amsterdam. Its X-Treme series now has a 54, 62, 78 (Sport and Fly), 90 and 105. They are all meant to be relatively fast, comfortable, cruising motoryachts.

The 78 Sport has an all-aluminum, V-shaped hull, designed by Bernd Weel Design. The luxurious interior is by Kitty van der Kamp Design. The design is clean, modern and  distinctive, with an almost-full length slash of windows on the lower deck, while the upper wheelhouse and salon have virtually wrap-around windows.

The foredeck has seating, protected by the high side decks, while the aft deck seating is another social area, with side gates for easy boarding. The raked front windshield adds to the sporty look, while providing protection from glare and water.

Sliding glass doors lead from the aft deck to the salon, with lots of seating and a large galley made for extended cruising. The wheelhouse is on a raised area forward; it has an opening sun roof on top.

Down a staircase, the X-Treme 78 Sport has accommodations for eight in four staterooms. The master is full-beam amidships, with a large en suite head all the way aft. A large guest stateroom is all the way forward; two more staterooms, both with twin beds, are aft, with two more heads.

Specs.: LOA: 77’6”; Beam: 19’2”; Draft: 4’9”; Disp.: 52 tons; Fuel: NA; Water: NA: Power: 2×1,000-hp Volvo Penta IPS1350 pod drives.
