Twin Disc Launches Express Docking System

Twin Disc just introduced its new Express Joystick System that makes docking much easier for owners of shaft-drive boats. Indeed, the new system gives you fingertip control of your boat’s speed and direction from multiple stations on board.

The Racine, Wisconsin, builder says the patented Express Joystick System simultaneously actuates and controls the engines, transmission and thrusters so you can move the boat in any direction. You just twist the knob, and the boat rotates on its center axis, giving you precise control while docking or maneuvering at low speeds. And the movements are seamless and instantaneous.

The new system works with Twin Disc’s Express Positioning System that uses proprietary GPS information to maintain a fixed position and heading at the touch of a button. This station-keeping ability is a welcome technology for anyone who has had to wait for a bridge opening, for example, or an empty spot at the fuel dock.

You also can use it to stand off a bit before you start to dock in a slip so you can let other traffic get out of the way or just study the situation. Twin Disc says it works even in fast current or high wind situations, and that it works for hours, although that may be a bit longer than most captains want to stay in one place.
