New Marex 420 Made for Cruising Families

Marex, the prize-winning Norwegian builder, just announced that it’s making a new 420 Gourmet Cruiser, designed for cruising families. The boat will be the company’s new flagship, and will be launched at the Düsseldorf show in January.

Founded in 1973, Marex is a family-owned company; it’s now run by the two sons of the founder. It now makes six models of cruising boats from 31 to 37 feet. It has a reputation for craftsmanship, precise engineering and creative ideas. Its Marex 33 won a European Powerboat of the Year Award earlier this year.

The company says the new 420 will have the largest galley in its class, leading to its Gourmet Cruiser designation. It has an outsized U-shaped galley with an oven/microwave, double sink, induction cooker, dishwasher, and an opening in the countertop leading to a storage space large enough for 24 boxes of drinks.

The basic boat has two staterooms and two heads. It’s a safe boat, with high railings and doors on both sides of the salon for easy access to the side decks. The ceiling height in the salon in 6’ 7” – and it’s 6’ 8” in the master stateroom. The boat comes with a washing machine to keep the family in clean clothes underway.

The cockpit can hold ten people, and the table can be lowered to create a large space for a sun pad. There’s seating with soft backs across the aft side of the transom and the hydraulic swim platform can hold a tender or be lowered to create a beach club effect.

In inclement weather (after all, this is a boat made in Norway), the cockpit can be entirely enclosed by curtains that are hidden in an arch in the overhead. You can then fasten the curtains with one single clasp.

Marex offers the 420 with standard twin 440-hp Volvo stern drives, but twin 480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives or twin 480-hp V-drives are options.

Specs.: LOA; 44’9”; Beam: 13’7”; Draft: 3’2”’; Disp.: 28,660 lbs.; Fuel: 314 gals.; Water: 206 gals.; Power: 2×440-hp Volvo stern drives. Read more:
