The massive, luxurious, electric WiderCat92 will be heading to the United States early next year. Last week, Wider, an Italian builder, announced that it formed a partnership with MarineMax so the U.S.-based retailer will be its exclusive distributor in North America.
The Wider yard is now building five of the 92-foot cats, including two scheduled for the U.S. With the new partnership, “MarineMax will be able to make Wider a household name among American boaters,” said Marcello Maggi, the Wider CEO. MarineMax is one of the largest boat dealers in the world, with 79 dealerships in the U.S.
Whether in the U.S. or anywhere else, the WiderCat92 will be hard to miss. Just from the renderings, it appears that the Wider 92 has the world’s largest beach club. In fact, it’s 721 square feet, and benefits from large platforms aft on each side that open out at water level.
They also can be accessed from the VIP cabins on the yacht. The side platforms join the cat’s swim platform to create a massive outdoor space. The garage is large enough for a 15-foot tender and a PWC.
The basic design calls for four guest staterooms, holding eight people, plus a crew quarters for four. A fifth guest stateroom can be added for a charter operation.
The eco-friendly cat is powered by the Wider Serial Hybrid Propulsion system, with solar panels and battery packs for silent, zero-emissions cruising. The cat has two 420kW permanent magnet electric motors, plus two 300kW variable speed Nanni diesel generators, and a 360kW battery pack.
The WiderCat92 has a top speed of 15 knots. At a cruising speed of 13 knots, it has a range of 1,000 nm. At 8 knots, range is 3,000 nm.
The salon, taking advantage of the cat’s more than 39-foot beam, has an open plan that includes a Teppanyaki grill, similar to those in a Japanese restaurant where guests sit around the grill while the chef prepares the meal. There are other al fresco lounges for eating outdoors. And there’s a Jacuzzi for relaxing.
