Riva Unveils First All-Electric Runabout

Riva, the glamorous and iconic Italian builder, just unveiled its first electric boat at a private event at the Monaco Yacht Club.

The new boat, named Riva El-Iseo, is a fully electric, 27-foot runabout prototype. The name comes from Lake Iseo, in northern Italy, where Rivas are made and where Riva is celebrating its 180th anniversary.

“El-Iseo is a glorious new chapter in the challenge that only Riva can experience every day,” said Alberto Galassi, CEO of the Ferretti Group, Riva’s parent company, “that of combining its legendary history with cutting-edge technology to generate beauty and style that will never go out of fashion.”

The new El-Iseo reflects Riva’s heritage in its hull, deck, style and colors. It also has Riva’s traditional stern-drive powertrain. The helm station is eye-catching with a digital touchscreen dash that reflects the analog displays of previous Rivas. The three drive modes, Allegro, Andante, and Adagio, reflect the tempos of classical music.

Power comes from a Parker GVM310 electric engine, developed by Parker Hannifin, a multinational motion and control technology company headquartered in Ohio. The power output is 250kW (300kW peak), and the Riva cruises at 25 knots with a top speed of 40 knots. Riva says the acceleration curve is significantly steeper than that of a similarly sized boat with a gas engine.

The El-Iseo has a lithium battery pack specifically designed for this boat. The batteries have a capacity of 150kWh and are configured to fit in two independent blocks between the engine and the stern seating.

We don’t have any other details yet. Stay tuned. Read more:
