Princess Launches New V50 Cruiser

Princess Yachts, one of the largest builders in the UK, just launched its new V50 Open cruiser at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The new V50 is an updated version of an aging 50 that was one of Princess’ most popular cruisers for many years, with an all-new hull and deck and considerably more power.

For the update, Princess worked with Pininfarina, the iconic Italian design house, for a sleek, more modern look. Power comes from twin 480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives, providing 80-hp more than the earlier boat as well as making docking and low-speed maneuvering easy with the IPS fingertip joystick. The new V50 has a deep-V hull; top speed is about 31 knots.

The boat has a large sun pad on the bow while the salon can be filled with sunlight by opening the sun roof with integrated glazing. You can also open the sliding doors to the cockpit for more light and fresh air.

The captain and navigator have twin seats at the helm on the starboard side that’s raised to give clear sightlines through a large, single-pane windshield. A sofa with a table is on the port side.

The cockpit can be protected by a large canopy overhead. It has a U-shaped lounge and table against the transom, and a smaller L-shaped seat is forward on the port side. A wide swim platform can be used for boarding and water sports.

Below, the master stateroom is full beam amidships, with an en suite head and shower. The VIP cabin is forward; its head also serves as the day head. The galley and dinette are set between the two cabins; the galley is to port, and the dinette, with a U-shaped settee and table, is to starboard.

Specs.: LOA: 52’7”; Beam: 13’4”; Draft: 3’7”; Disp.: 35,049 lbs.; Fuel: 341 gals.; Water: 91 gals.; Power: 2×480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives. Read more:
