MarineMax Vacations Celebrates 10 Years in BVI

MarineMax Vacations is celebrating its tenth anniversary in the British Virgin Islands, and it has created a sweepstakes offering a free charter vacation there. You can enter the sweepstakes through the rest of this year. If you win, you’ll get a six-day/five-night charter on a MarineMax 443 power cat next year in the BVI.

The MarineMax base is on Nanny Cay on Tortola, a central location to start a charter in the BVI, with some of the most beautiful cruising grounds in the world. The BVI also are a relatively easy place to cruise; most navigation is line-of-sight.

The base is just a short shuttle ride from the West End ferry dock, or from Road Town, the port of entry. It’s on Sir Francis Drake Channel, the main thoroughfare in the BVI, and a short boat ride from Norman, Peter, Salt and Cooper Islands.

Nanny Cay has a dive shop, a Riteway grocery story, two restaurants, a coffee bar, a salon and spa. For boating, it also has a full-service yard, a ship’s chandlery and marine store for last-minute supplies. And it’s just a short walk to Pegleg’s beach bar and kitchen. Nanny Cay also has a hotel with villas and a pool, so it’s an easy spot to relax before or after your charter, or to make a crew change.

The MarineMax Vacation fleet there includes the 443 involved in the sweepstakes, a 484, with four cabins and four heads, and a 545, with five cabins and five heads. The 443 (pictured above) is 44-feet long with a 21’ 6” beam. It has a spacious flybridge that offers direct access to the foredeck, a big advantage in picking up a mooring or in anchoring. The large windows in the galley and salon offer 360-degree views, and the boat has a unique full-beam master stateroom that includes an office area. Power comes from twin 260-hp Volvo diesels.
