The annual DAME Awards recognizing superior design were just announced at the opening of the big METSTRADE marine equipment exhibition in Amsterdam. The awards were started in 1991 to promote design in all fields and to recognize the best-designed products at the show.
This year the DAME Design Award winner was the Ocean Signal RescueME PLB3 AIS Personal Locator Beacon (pictured at top).
The jury said it is a “combination of an AIS man overboard device and GPS with a Cospas-Sarsat personal locator beacon.” It called the RescueMe “a standout product” because of “its harnessing of multiple technologies to save lives in such a small unit and obvious attention to design detail.”

MarineShift360 Lifecycle Assessment Tool for Marina and Boatyard Equipment.
Aquafleece Robe for Clothing and Accessories.
Ocean Signal RescueME PLB3 AIS Personal Locator Beacon for Lifesaving and Safety Equipment.
Integral The Next Generation also for Lifesaving and Safety Equipment.
Essential by Aceleron Ltd. won the Environmental Design Award. This is a new award, and the jury said it “selected a product that addresses a rapidly growing concern about end-of-life disposal in a world heading for batteries with everything. The Essential is a cobalt-free, lithium iron phosphate battery with replaceable and upgradable parts using compression rather than welded assembly to enable servicing in the field.”
Special Mention Awards were given to the following, among others:

Aqua superPower for Marine Equipment.
Seaview’s Rollable Boat Hook for Deck Equipment.
ACR’s GlobalFix V5 AIS EPIRB for Lifesaving and Safety Equipment.
Seakeeper Ride for Machinery, Propulsion, Mechanical Systems.
ZF POD 4600 also for Machinery, Propulsion, Mechanical Systems.
