Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding has started work on the first flybridge version of the Hood 35 LM at its yard in Thomaston, Maine. The new 35 with classic Down East lines will be launched this summer.

The flybridge will be the second Hood 35 LM; the first was an express version that was launched last summer. Like the original, the new flybridge will be laid up with cold-molded wood composite; the hull will be made with Douglas fir and western red cedar. The flybridge will be made with carbon fiber to keep the weight down and the center of gravity low.

Both boats were designed by Chris Hood at C.W. Hood Yachts in Marblehead, Mass. This latest collaboration with Lyman-Morse came when one of Hood’s customers, who had a smaller Hood powerboat, wanted to move up in size.

The new flybridge version has an enclosed aft bulkhead for protection against the weather, and the galley is up to create more room on the accommodations deck below. The first, express, version was open from the helm to the cockpit, and the galley was down. Both versions have a spacious head and shower below. A centerline queen berth is in the forepeak.

For power, the flybridge boat will have twin 440-hp Volvo diesels with sterndrives. Hull number one had 440-hp Yanmars paired to Hamilton Waterjets. Top speed on the new boat is expected to be more than 40 knots; it was 41 knots on the first model. A third power option of twin outboards also is available.

The flybridge maintains the boat’s graceful lines. It’s also functional, with bench seating for two or three people with the helm on the centerline.
