Jeanneau, the prestigious French builder, just announced that it will expand its new Day Boat line by unveiling a new DB37 at the big Düsseldorf show, starting Jan. 21.
Just last March, Jeanneau introduced the Day Boat series with a striking, and well received, DB43. Paul Blanc, the executive director of Jeanneau, said, “We are happy to add a second opus to the DB yachts line, just a few months after the successful launch of the DB/43. With DB Yachts, we imagine the future of yachting.”
The new DB37, like the DB43, represents fresh thinking for Jeanneau by Camillo Garroni, the Italian designer who did the interior and exterior styling, and Michael Peters, the multi-talented naval architect from Sarasota who did the hull. With its plumb bow, low profile and Euro-modern design, the DB43 represented a major new style for Jeanneau.
The new DB37 has the same raked windshield as the DB43 (pictured above), and the same slash of windows in the hull sides forward to let in a lot of light to the accommodations deck below. We don’t have any details yet, but it seems the DB37 has the option to fold down the bulwarks from both sides of the aft deck, creating extra space extending out over the water.
The bulwarks appear high on the DB37, which is a good thing for safety and ease of walking around the side decks, but which also means the fold-out terraces or wings will be of a significant size.
The DB43 had two staterooms and two heads below. It’s not clear what the accommodations will be on the DB37, although Jeanneau said the DB37 will be “the perfect representation of the DB Yachts line, with unprecedented interior volume for a day boat.”
The DB37, per its name, can serve well as a day boat, but it’s also a versatile craft, and it looks like it could function just as well as a picnic boat or a weekend (or longer) cruiser. We’ll have more details later.
