New Azimut 50: Entry-Level Flybridge

The new Azimut 50 Fly, the entry-level yacht in the Italian builder’s flybridge series, is a family-friendly cruiser with lots of light, style and social areas inside and out.

The 50 is designed for an owner-operator, with three cabins and two heads below, plus (primarily for the European market) a crew cabin with its own head under the large sun pad on the aft deck. Most U.S. buyers (the boat is sold by MarineMax here) will probably opt to use this space as a very large lazarette.

Power comes from twin 670-hp Volvo diesels, with a top speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots, more than enough for a relaxed cruise with family or friends. The hull has a deadrise of just 12 degrees at the transom for stability.

Azimut makes seven yachts, up to 83 feet, in its flybridge lineup. The 50 has all the contemporary Italian design elements that the company is known for, but with everything scaled down a bit. It features the trademark Azimut mirrored windows that sweep along the sides of the salon.

Two chairs face the helm on the starboard side, up two steps from the salon itself. A dinette is opposite, to port; a large pantry for storage and a laundry are down a few steps.

The salon itself is a large seating area with a U-shaped sofa and table to starboard, and a smaller sofa to port. The furniture is just half-height, so it doesn’t block the view.

The aft deck is marked by U-shaped seating around a big teak coffee table. For entertaining, there’s a large bar plus an ice maker. Smart stainless steel gates open to the large swim platform, which can be lowered hydraulically for access to the water.

The foredeck has two large sets of sun pads, while the flybridge offers more social areas, an upper helm, and a choice of either a retractable Bimini or a fiberglass hard top with an opening sun roof.

Below, the master stateroom is full-beam amidships, with its own head. The VIP cabin is forward; it shares a head with a smaller cabin on the starboard side.
