Galeon Launches New 440 Fly Cruiser

The new Galeon 440 Fly just made its world debut at the Düsseldorf show in January, and it’s already getting a lot of notice for its styling and for the company’s ability to pack a lot of user-friendly features into a 44-foot boat.

Tony Castro, the well-regarded British designer, worked with Galeon on the new 440 Fly. The most apparent design elements are aft, where a wet bar/grill is built into the transom, running almost across the full width of the boat. It’s just above a super-sized hydraulic swim platform, so you can easily enjoy a grilled sandwich or a tropical drink when you emerge from the water in your bathing suit.

Then, press a button and a folding balcony deploys from each side of the boat. They’re teak with glass inserts, so they offer views of the water even when they’re upright. When they’re deployed, the beam of the cockpit expands from 13’ 8” to almost 19 feet.

A folding glass door opens to the salon, where the back of a sofa can be flipped so that guests face aft, extending the cockpit’s social area. The galley is forward on the 440 Fly, on the port side, opposite the helm to starboard. You can lower the window in the galley, and slide back the window next to the helm, for some major cross ventilation.

The helm has two 12-inch Raymarine displays. Power comes from two 480-hp Volvo diesels with straight shafts, but the boat has both bow and stern thrusters to make docking easy.

Below, the VIP stateroom is in the bow with a scissor bed (it can be joined together or split apart, depending on the guests’ preferences) with an en suite head and shower. The master stateroom, with a queen-sized bed, is a bit aft, also with a head and shower.

Up top, the flybridge has seating for 12 around a massive table. A wet bar with a sink and fridge, is on the port side. The upper helm is to starboard.

Galeon was founded in 1982. It now has two factories in Poland, with 1,500 workers. Galeons are sold in the U.S. by MarineMax.
