New X-Treme 54: A Pocket Superyacht

These are boom times for the Holterman Shipman in the Netherlands, builders of X-Treme Yachts. The yard’s flagship105-foot Lady Fleur won two superyacht awards earlier this year, it just launched a new 78, and it’s finishing the second hull of its 54, this one with more power than the original.

The 54 (pictured) is the smallest of the builder’s six models, and it’s designed, by Bernd Weel, to function as a pocket-sized superyacht. The first 54, named Ferox, was powered by two 175-hp Volvos, and cruised at 7.5 knots. The new version will have twin 300-hp Volvos, for 10-knot cruising speed and a range of 2,400 nm.

E-Tremes are built with steel hulls and have earned a reputation over the company’s 25-year history as robust and comfortable vessels. The 54s provide a relaxed and luxurious ride along Europe’s rivers and waterways. Their low profile and collapsible mast mean they can slide under a lot of bridges there, or anywhere else in the world (the Great Loop, anyone?).

The 54 has a reverse rake to the windshield and clean, modern European lines. The bow features two plush sofas, facing each other. A sliding glass door opens to the salon from the cockpit. A large sun roof admits lots of natural light in the salon. A divider separates the salon from the galley, and a large helm station is forward.

A staircase leads to the lower deck with the full-beam master cabin aft and the VIP cabin forward. The owner’s cabin has an en suite and shower; the VIP has an en suite shower, while a day head is in the hallway.

A garage in the stern is large enough to hold a RIB, some bikes, even an extra fridge or freezer. The swim platform can be extended an extra 2’ 2” for more access to the water.
