Fairline, the large British builder, just announced that it will launch a sporty new Targa 40, the entry to the Targa line, this summer.

The new 40 replaces the Targa 38, which was first launched in 2006; it was one of Fairline’ most popular boats, with more than 300 sold in ten years. The Targa lineup now will have six boats, from the new 40 up to a 65. “This brand-new 40 takes everything we loved about the 38 and elevates it for the 21st century,” said Christian Gott, Fairline’s lead designer.

Standard power for the 40 will be twin 340-hp Volvo diesels paired to sterndrives, for a top speed of about 32 knots. With 380-hp Volvos, the top speed goes up to 36 knots.

The 40 has a bold, sporty design, with a modern European edge, starting with its almost vertical bow. It has extensive glazing that floods the interior with natural light, and you can push a button to open the canvas sun roof overhead for more light and lots of fresh air.

The teak swim platform lowers for access to water sports and to launch and retrieve the tender; the 40’s garage is large enough to hold a 7’ 6” tender with an electric outboard.

From the swim platform, there’s a center walkway into the cockpit. It has two sun beds with floating backrests that can be converted to sofas. The bulwark on the starboard side drops down to create more room, and a wet bar is forward to make entertaining easy.

The helm deck has C-shaped seating on the port side and two helm seats to starboard. The helm features Garmin touchscreen displays.

Below, the Targa 40 has two cabins and one head. The galley is to port when you step below, with a dinette area to starboard. The master cabin is forward with 6’ 4” headroom and a centered queen-sized bed. It has a private entrance to the head and shower.

The guest cabin is amidships, tucked under the helm deck, with two beds set athwartships; they can be converted to a double.
