New Neptunus 650E: Luxury Blue-Water Cruiser

Made in Canada, just over the border from Niagara Falls, the new Neptunus 650E is a sleek, solid cruiser with some big-yacht touches and blue-water capabilities.

The Neptunus 650E is a three-cabin, three-head cruiser that comes with a CE Category A Ocean Certified pedigree, meaning it’s built to handle winds over 40 knots and wave heights over 13 feet.

It’s powered by twin 1136-hp CAT C18 diesels, giving it a top speed of 32 knots. At a cruising speed of 26 knots, it has a range of 282 nm. Dial back to 10 knots, and the range jumps to 713 nm. The hull is resin-infused and laid up with two layers of Kevlar.

The yacht is made for an owner-operator who wants to spend considerable time on board, and it’s filled with light and space for comfortable cruising. You can enter via the large teak swim platform that can be lowered with hydraulics into the water. The cockpit has a high-gloss mahogany table, an electric sunshade, seating for six, and a wet bar and grill.

You enter the salon through large glass sliding doors; you don’t have to step up, everything’s on the same level from the transom to the helm. An entertainment center, part of the large galley, is aft on the port side and it’s equipped with an automatic espresso maker and a wine cooler.

The salon has 7’ 8” of headroom, a surprise despite the Neptunus’ low profile. There’s an open, airy feeling, with opening windows on the sides and an opening skylight overhead. The dinette, with custom leather upholstery, seats six; they have unobstructed 360-degree views.

An L-shaped leather sofa is forward. The two helm chairs are mounted on stainless steel pedestals and have custom leather seats; the co-pilot’s seat swivels and lowers, adding to seating in the salon. The Neptunus has proportional bow and stern thrusters to make maneuvering easy around a dock.

Below, the master stateroom is full-beam amidships, with a king-sized bed, his-and-hers hanging lockers, and a walk-in, cedar-lined closet. The large windows have opening ports, and the furnishings have leather accents and walnut finishes. The en suite head comes with either granite or quartz countertops, and there’s a creative ceramics wall in the frameless-glass shower.

The VIP stateroom is forward with a queen-sized bed, and a two-person guest stateroom is on the starboard side. The boat also has a crew cabin with a berth and head and shower under the aft deck.

Neptunus has made about 175 yachts since it was started more than 30 years ago in St. Catharines, Ontario. The model lineup now has a 750, the 650, and a 550.
