Greenline To Focus on Larger Yachts

Greenline, the trend-setting Slovenian builder, just announced that it will focus on building larger yachts and will discontinue its popular 33 in the summer of 2024.

Back in 2008, Greenline staked out its position as the world’s leader in building hybrid production boats with its now iconic 33. It  has delivered about 500 of them since then to owners in 50 countries around the world. The Greenline 33 also garnered more than 30 awards along the way, including one for International Boat of the Year.

The Greenline 33 was innovative in more than its use of clean solar/electric/diesel technology. The 33 became a design trend setter with its single deck approach to family boating, integrating the cockpit and salon into one large area with an aft galley and wide side decks. The boat was designed for safe, easy and efficient family cruising; it also appealed to environmentally conscious owners because of its green technology.

I tested one of the first 33s many years ago on the Chesapeake. It was easy to predict the boat’s successful trajectory. The Greenline 33 was quiet, smooth and easy to drive, with a fully electric mode at slow speeds around the docks, and then a simple switch to diesel mode for more speed.

Diesel options on the 33 now range from 110-hp with a top speed of 12 knots, up to 220-hp and a top speed of 18 knots. The hull is efficient, and the 33 has a range of 700 nm at 7 knots.

The 33 is now on its fifth generation of hybrid power, combining solar panels, lithium batteries and a diesel/electric power train. Under electric power alone, it can cruise at up to 5.5 knots, with a range of 20- to 40 nm at 4 knots.

Greenline now makes six models from 39 to 68 feet, but it says it will continue to make a 33 if you order it by next summer. “We are immensely proud of the success and heritage of the Greenline 33 and how it shaped the market for eco-conscious family boating,” said Vladimir Zinchenko, the company’s owner and founder. “Winning more than 30 awards is no small feat, especially in such a competitive sector of the market. Due to the increased demand for larger yachts, the time is right for us to optimize our space and capacity for larger models.”
