Selene just loaded its latest 60 on a cargo ship in Yantian Port, Shenzen, China; it’s hull number 46 of Selene’s popular Ocean Explorer series.

This newest 60 has a modern full-body layout and a new profile with large side windows and three staterooms with en suite heads. It’s meant for an owner-operator, but it also has a crew stateroom aft with a full head; this space could serve as a fourth cabin. The company calls it “a compact super-yacht.”

The 60 is the smallest in Selene’s Ocean Explorer line that goes up to 128 feet. Ocean Explorers have been developed by Guido de Groot, the Dutch designer, since 2011. The 60 has several Selene family traits, including a raised pilothouse, Portuguese bridge, bulbous bow and long keel.

Over the years, Selenes have proven to be efficient and seaworthy long-range cruisers. The new 60 is powered by a single 425-hp John Deere diesel, giving it a top speed of about 10 knots and, since the boat carries 2,000 gallons of fuel, a range of about 3,500 nm at 7 knots. The yacht can also be ordered with twin John Deeres or single or twin Cummins diesels.

The pilothouse, with wraparound windows, is the heart of the new Selene, with a single helm seat, two side doors, and a settee and table on the port side.

On the foredeck, a three-person settee is up on the bow, just forward of an optional Jacuzzi. Aft, the cockpit has settees and a table and is protected by the overhang from the boat deck above. The flybridge, with its upper helm, is protected by an all-weather hardtop.

Selenes are made at the Jet-tern factory in Zhahua, China.
