New Absolute 52 Fly: Extra Space and Light

The Absolute 52 Fly sets a new bar for interior light and glazing as well as for serious social zones inside and out.

Introduced to the U.S. at the Miami show in February, the Italian-built Absolute is a three cabin, two head luxury motoryacht, with a crew cabin aft. Powered by twin 600-hp Volvo IPS800 pod drives, it cruises at 22 knots, and tops out at 28 knots.

But, as with most Italian yachts, with the Absolute 52 Fly, the theme is as much about style and living on board as it is about performance. The new 52 is remarkable for its extensive, floor-to-ceiling glazing, providing 360-degree views in the salon. It has air conditioning there, plus electric sliding windows that can be lowered for more ventilation. Three-piece sliding glass doors open to the cockpit and provide clear views aft.

Modular furniture in the open cockpit can be arranged to suite the weather or the activity, while glass balustrades and the cut-away bulwarks are an Absolute trademark. Wide decks lead forward, where a central walkaround area with a settee, table and sun bed arrangement can hold at least nine people on the foredeck.

On the flybridge, the helm is offset to port with two helm chairs, while a large U-shaped settee is opposite to starboard and, in an unusual feature, a three-person sun pad is forward. A central bar is aft with freestanding seating. Owners can opt for solar panels on the hardtop, so they won’t have to run the genset if they’re anchoring out.

In the salon, there’s more modular furniture, with the galley aft and a dining area forward. The galley is cruise-ready with a full-height fridge, separate freezer, and a large pantry.

The master stateroom, located in the bow below, also benefits from supersized side windows. It stretches across the full beam and has marble countertops in the en suite head. The VIP, aft, is almost as large and luxurious as the master, and also has an en suite head. The third, guest cabin is on the starboard side; push a button and the bed converts for a  twin to a double. A crew cabin is aft, accessible from the swim platform.
