Riviera 585 SUV Makes Debut Down Under

The new Riviera 585 SUV, with its clean, low, sleek profile, will make its world debut at the Sanctuary Cove show in Australia starting May 25.

The largest builder in the Southern Hemisphere, Riviera showcases its SUV line as a combination of an offshore performer and a social gathering and entertaining venue. The 585 is a three-stateroom, three-head cruiser, made for everything from an overnight to a weeks-long (or longer) voyage. (It also has a crew quarter with a dedicated laundry, although that space can also be used for extra storage.)

One of the most distinguishing features of the new Riviera is the cockpit and adjoining al fresco deck, providing two distinct social areas outside the salon. Two wide doors from the swim platform lead up to the cockpit, with seating, a fridge, icemaker and electric barbecue. An aft wing station is on the starboard side.

Up three steps is the alfresco deck, with seating for six, all protected by side panels and a hardtop with two electric-opening sun roofs. Slide open the tinted glass door and you enter the salon, with the galley aft and a tinted glass window that opens to serve the alfresco deck.

A dining area is opposite the galley, and an L-shaped settee is forward, opposite the portside helm. Two adjustable chairs, one for the captain, one for a guest, face the helm.

Below, the full-beam master stateroom is amidships, and the VIP is forward. The third cabin, with twin bunks, is on the port side. The master and the VIP both have en suite heads. The guest cabin shares the day head.

Standard power comes from twin 900-hp Volvo IPS1200 pod drives; 1,000-hp versions are an option.

The Riviera 585 SUV will make its U.S. debut at the Fort Lauderdale show in October.
