A 47-foot powerboat named Floating Dock hit a submerged object and sank last weekend in Delaware Bay. The Coast Guard rescued the two people on board.

The Coast Guard says it received a distress call from the boat, reporting that it had hit something underwater and had a hole in the bow. The two people on board tried to control the flood of water into the boat, but it was too much. They put on their life jackets and called for help.

The boat was in the bay near Fortescue, New Jersey, up from Cape May. The Coast Guard station in Fortescue sent a 29-foot rapid response boat. Its personnel tried to dewater the Floating Dock with their pumps, but that too was a losing effort. A 45-foot Coast Guard boat also tried to help, but by then the Floating Dock had started to capsize.

The boat sank in 18 feet of water. There were no signs of pollution.

The Coast Guard took the two people to shore; they were not injured. It then issued a Safety Marine Information Broadcast, warning mariners to avoid the area. Read more:
