Porsche and Frauscher, the Austrian boat builder, just announced that they’re working together to produce a 30-foot, all-electric boat next year. The boat will use the electric platform that Porsche is planning for its first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan sports saloon.

The new boat will be called the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air electric yacht. It’s based on Frauscher’s existing 858 Fantom Air, and it will have power from Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric, including a 100kWh lithium-ion battery pack, an electric motor, and 800-volt DC charging so it can be charged at DC fast-charging stations. (AC charging will also be available.)

Porsche says the boat will feature “impressive acceleration, abundant pulling power, superior continuously available performance, and inspiring design.”

Porsche is designing the helm station, steering wheel, console and the boat’s high-performance luxurious seats and upholstery. The boat can carry up to nine passengers, and it will have a swim platform, sun pads, a cockpit that can be covered by a Bimini, a fridge, and a superior sound system.

As an-electric vessel, it will be quiet and emissions-free. It’s designed to be an entry to sustainable boating for the two companies. Porsche is investigating the applications for the electric powertrain in other boat sizes.

Stefan Frauscher, whose family started the company in 1927 in Vienna, said, “Our boat is perfect as a day cruiser for a relaxed swimming trip, for example, or as a tender for a superyacht to make an excursion to a coastal town.” Frauscher’s yard is now in Ohlsdorf in Upper Austria; it has a U.S. office in Miami.
