Targa 37: For Some Serious Adventures

Targa has been making boats in Finland for more than 40 years, but they’re just starting to appear on the U.S. market, appealing to the year-round, serious-cruising or adventure market.

The Targa fleet now runs from 23 to 46 feet, but the 37 seems to hit the sweet spot here. It’s easily handled by a single person, but it’s large enough to hold a family in its protected pilothouse/salon and two cabins.

The pilothouse, with Targa’s reverse-raked windshield to reduce glare (and shed water), has doors opening to the decks on both sides, so the captain or mate can step out to help with lines or docking. And the side decks are wraparound and protected by high bulwarks. The Targa 37 is built to be a safe, seaworthy and comfortable boat.

All that should appeal to the average cruising boat owner. But Targa does emphasize the adventuresome side. Take a look at the video below, for example. And the company says the 37 is the preferred choice for sightseeing in Greenland, which has lots of ice.

The Targa 37 is a flybridge boat. A second helm station is up there, with two seats forward and a three-person bench seat a bit aft.

It has eight seats in the pilothouse, with a table for six and a galley with a two-burner cooktop and fridge. The forward cabin has two berths, with two more (plus the head and shower) in the aft cabin. There’s a swim platform aft, and seats on the foredeck in front of the pilothouse.

Targa offers a range of power options. With twin 440-hp Volvo DPI sterndrives, the Targa 37 tops out at about 43 knots. At its most efficient cruising speed of 23 knots, the range is more than 400 nm.

Specs.: LOA: 40’6”; Beam: 11’5”; Draft: 3’6”; Disp.: NA; Fuel: 356 gals.; Water: 60 gals.; Power: 2×440-hp Volvo DPI sterndrives. Read more at http://targa.fi and see the video below:
