A 17-year-old lacrosse player was killed last Friday night when the Regulator center console she was riding in with five others crashed into a stone jetty on the north shore of Cape Cod and she was thrown into the water.

The Dennis Fire & Rescue dive team recovered the body of Sadie Mauro, a rising senior at Dover-Sherborn High School, about 11:30 p.m. The crash was reported about 9 p.m. in a series of 911 calls after the boat hit the jetty in Sesuit Harbor in Dennis. A teenage boy on the boat was taken to Cape Cod  Hospital in Hyannis with head injuries.

Sadie Mauro was a member of her school’s girl’s lacrosse team that won a state championship last year. She had written that she expected to play at Gettysburg College when she enrolled there next year.

In a letter to the school community, John Smith, the school’s principal, said, “Sadie’s smile could light up a room, she had a heart of gold and the sweetest spirit.”

The Coast Guard, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, the Barnstable County Dive Team and the Sandwich Fire Department were all involved in the search. A small crowd of people gathered with lights to help illuminate the area.

The Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office said the boat had Alabama registration. The DA’s office provided no other details or other information about the cause of the crash, which is  under investigation.
