Solaris just unveiled its 52 Open flagship powerboat that’s bound to get a lot of attention when it makes its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival on September 12.

The new Solaris Power 52 Open looks like a larger version of the Solaris 48 Open that won the European Powerboat of the Year Award three years ago and the 44 Open that was nominated for the same award two years ago.

Solaris has been making sailboats in its Italian yard since 1974. It started a powerboat line in 2008 and now makes a Lobster Boat line and the Open line. Solaris has earned a reputation in Europe for building seaworthy, solid and secure yachts that will turn heads wherever they cruise.

The new 52 Open has a vertical, flared bow and a deep-V hull aft for a dry, stable and comfortable ride offshore. It has a big, beamy cockpit, full walkaround decks leading to the foredeck sun lounge, and lots of space above and below deck. A pair of folding bulwarks aft not only open the side views there, but they also increase the aft deck space considerably.

Solaris actually offers three separate cockpit layouts for the 52. The first has a pair of sofas facing each other across a teak dining table with a large outdoor galley forward. The other two options have a larger, C-shaped sofa facing forward or aft opposite a straight sofa with a smaller wet bar located behind the triple helm seats.

The standard lower deck features two large double cabins, with the owner’s situated full-beam amidships and the VIP in the bow, with a small single crew cabin in the port side. Owners also can order two smaller double cabins and a third guest cabin. In any case, the larger of the cabins has its own en suite head and shower, while the second head is accessed from the lobby so it can serve as a day head.

Standard power is two 480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives, with a top speed of 30 knots. Optional power includes twin 600-hp IPS800 pod drives, with a top speed of 35 knots.

Specs.: LOA: 53’; Beam: 16’3”; Draft: 3’9”; Disp.: 39,022 lbs.; Fuel: 528 gals.; Water: 145 gals.; Power: 2×480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives, or 2×600-hp IPS800 pod drives.
