Aquila Launching New 47 Power Cat

Aquila will launch its new 47 Molokai Power Catamaran this fall, the third boat and largest boat in its offshore Molokai line that starts at 28 feet.

Aquila calls the new 47 the Big Kahuna, and says it’s the first in its new generation of power cats. The 47 Molokai is ready for fishing, with large fishboxes waiting for the day’s catch, but it also can easily serve as a versatile cruiser, with a 14-foot, 7-inch beam providing both stability and lots of room inside and out.

A sliding door near the helm provides access to an interior cabin with a full-size queen bed. And a pantograph door on the port side of the console opens to the head and shower. A summer galley is an option.

The new Aquila has a double-stepped hull for some speed, and its high tunnel clearance creates an air cushion to reduce drag underway and hull noise at anchor.

Lightweight carbon-fiber bulkheads add strength, and the carbon-fiber hard top adds to a lower center of gravity.

On deck, the big cat has 360-degree walkaround space for fishing and easy movement around the boat. A center door at the transom provides water access, while hull doors on both sides help with boarding.

The helm has Stidd seating for three, with arm rests and bolster cushions. Just aft, an elevated second row has Stidd seating for four.

Standard power comes from two 600-hp Mercury V-12 outboards, but four 400-hp Merc V-10 outboards are an option.

Aquilas are made by Sino Eagle in China, and sold in the U.S. by MarineMax.

Specs.: LOA: 49’4”; Beam: 14’7”; Draft (motors down): 3’8”; Disp.: 22,818 lbs.; Fuel: 1,048 gals.; Water: 80 gals.; Power: 2×600-hp Mercury V-12 outboards.
