Sleek New Alia 43M Aimed at Miami Market

Alia Yachts just announced that they’re building a new 43M with sleek, low, aggressive lines. They call it a raised pilothouse design with an outdoor-centric appeal for a client in Miami who wants to enjoy an open-air lifestyle in Florida and the Bahamas.

At 138-feet-long, the Alia 43M is certainly a bit larger than the boats we usually cover, but the “raised pilothouse” designation and long-range cruising capabilities (2,300 nm at 12 knots) caught our attention.

This is definitely not the raised pilothouse design we associate with Pacific Northwest builders, but Alia, with its yard in Antalya, Turkey, has worked with Omega Architects for the looks and  Van Oossanen for the hull (both firms are in The Netherlands) for its own version.

In the Alia 43M, the raised pilothouse is spread over more than two decks to keep the profile low and the lines sleek. “She’s a combination of speedy and rugged,” said Frank Laupman of Omega Architects.

The al fresco lifestyle beckons with lounging and sun bathing possibilities on the aft deck, the fore deck and the sun deck, where there’s also a hot tub. Even the salon has sliding glass doors on both sides to admit fresh air (and terrific views).

For its part, Van Oossanen designed an all-aluminum, fast displacement hull that they say is efficient throughout the entire power curve. Perry Van Oossanen, the head of the firm, says that the boat’s fine entry, shallow transom and spray rail in the bow “lead to fuel-efficient cruising, outstanding top-end performance and relatively low engine power.”

All these, he says, make the boat “a very competitive player in the U.S. market.”

The lower deck has four guest suites, quarters for seven crew, plus a gym and a side-loading tender garage. The master stateroom, with a walk-in wardrobe, is forward on the main deck.

Power comes from twin 2,600-hp, 16V MTU diesels, producing a top speed of 22.5 knots.
