Azimut Introducing New Verve 48 in Cannes

The new Azimut Verve 48, the latest in the Italian builder’s outboard-powered series, will make its global debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival starting Sept. 12.

Power for the new 48 comes from three 600-hp Mercury V12 outboards, producing a top speed of 50 knots. Azimut says those engines are 15 per cent more efficient, and 10 decibels quieter, than the four 450-hp Mercury Racing outboards that powered the Verve 47 that was introduced three years ago.

Azimut says the 48 has a completely new stern area, with a larger section of the bulwark opening out to merge with a wider swim platform, creating more deck space and easier access to the water.

The 48 also has a new slender and more enveloping hardtop, with an opening tempered glass insert that lets in more light and fresh air, even at anchor.

The interior and exterior of the new Verve were designed by Francesco Struglia, the Rome-based yacht and home designer. The stepped hull comes from Michael Peters, the Sarasota-based designer who specializes in fast boats.

The bow of the 48 has an asymmetrical split level layout. Up top is a cushioned sun-bathing area, while below is an al fresco lounge and dining area with a table for six and a C-shaped sofa.

The Verve’s low profile and massive raked windshield make it look like it’s going fast even when it’s tied up at a dock. The helm station has three seats protected by the hardtop. The side windows are large, providing visibility all around, and the back of the helm deck is open.

Down four steps, the master cabin is forward, with a queen-sized bed. A guest cabin is tucked under the helm with berths for two. A galley is at the foot of the stairs on the starboard side, and an L-shaped lounge with a table is to port. The 48 has a large head with a shower.

Verve is the entry line for Azimut. There’s also a Verve 42, with one cabin and three 450-hp Mercury Racing outboards for a top speed of 45 knots.

Azimuts are sold in the U.S. by MarineMax.
