Pearl will demonstrate Volvo’s new Assisted Docking system at the Southampton boat show starting Sept. 15. on its award-winning 62, the British builder’s best-selling model.

Volvo’s Assisted Docking is a stem-to-stern system designed to take the stress out of docking a boat, even one as large as the Pearl 62. It represents the next generation of marine automation (although it does not replace a captain at the helm) and makes docking even in tight spaces safe and easy, compensating for the dynamics of wind and current.

You control the boat’s direction and speed, while the system automatically adjusts for everything else. Push the joystick forward, and the system lays out a straight path. If you release the joystick, the boat will hold a fixed position. In short, it makes you look good, even in challenging situations.

For its part, the Pearl 62 flybridge, designed by Bill Dixon, features a luxury interior by Kelly Hoppen, CBE. The yacht has accommodations for eight guests in six cabins, including a full-beam owner’s suite with a private entrance. You can order a crew cabin aft, or use that space as a jet-ski garage.

The salon is filled with light from large picture windows, plus an opening sun roof between the top of the windshield and the flybridge. The galley is aft, to port, with a dinette to starboard. Amidships is a lounge area, while two seats face the helm forward to starboard. A electric door next to the helm opens to the wide side deck, a nice feature for docking and line handling or just moving around the yacht.

The aft deck is ready for al fresco dining, while the foredeck has sun pads, a forward-facing seating area and a retractable table.

The flybridge has the upper helm, sun lounges, a wet bar and a fridge, all protected by a hardtop with a retractable sunroof.

With twin 725-hp Volvo IPS950 pod drives, the Pearl 62 tops out at more than 30 knots.
