Cannes Debut for Marex Gourmet Cruiser

Marex, the Norwegian builder, just introduced its new 440 Gourmet Cruiser flagship at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Marex has designed the 440 as a family cruiser with special emphasis on its galley; Marex says it’s the largest in its size range. The 440 is built for safe and easy living on board, with two cabins (and an optional third) and two heads below. A washing machine is standard.

The side decks are protected by high railings, so moving around the boat is safe all around. And there’s a door next to the helm so the captain can have fast access to the side deck to help with lines or docking.

The galley itself is aft on the port side of the salon, which is filled with natural light from windows all around. It’s U-shaped, with an oven/microwave, double sink, induction cooker and a dishwasher. There’s an opening in the countertop leading to extra storage space.

The Marex’s solar panels generate enough capacity to keep the fridge and freezer running permanently on their own, without relying on a generator or shore power.

You can order the Gourmet Cruiser with large cabinets opposite the galley, or with an extra dining area with a large sofa and two retractable stools.

The aft cockpit has a U-shaped sofa for family gatherings, and the large teak swim platform can be submerged for water sports. A sofa there creates a beach club effect at water level.

The entire cockpit on the Marex 440 can be enclosed for weather protection. Curtains are hidden in an overhead arch and just slide around the area. The resulting canopy can be fastened with just a single grip. All told, it takes less than a minute to convert the boat from an open cruiser to a closed, weathertight boat.

The Marex has an air draft of 14’ 6”, so it can slide under a lot of bridges in Europe or the U.S. Power options include Volvo 480-hp IPS pod drives or 480-hp Volvo V drives.

Specs.: LOA: 44’11”; Beam: 14; Draft: 3’3”;  Disp.: 28,660 lbs.; Fuel: 314 gals.; Water: 206 gals. Power: 2x 440-480-hp Volvo D6.
