A New Look for the New Tecnomar 142

You won’t have any trouble spotting your boat at a crowded anchorage or harbor if you charter the new Tecnomar 142 that the company says looks like “a fantastic sea creature.” Whatever. It certainly doesn’t look like anything else out there.

Part of the Italian Sea Group, Tecnomar launched the 142 power catamaran just in time for the Monaco show this week. It will be in the charter trade next spring.

The yacht was built by Tasos Papanastasiou, the Cypriot founder of the XM financial forum, who named it This Is It, which actually covers quite a bit of ground. The eye-catching curvilinear design was optimized for hydrodynamic efficiency. The complex curved shape of the aluminum superstructure is actually quite a feat of engineering, done by Lateral Naval Architects in the U.K.

The big cat has some 6,500 square feet of glass windows, large balconies and a vertical garden outside the owner’s stateroom that climbs two decks. The aft deck has a swimming pool, bar, sun lounges and a game room that’s large enough to serve as an extra cabin if an unexpected guest shows up.

The salon is marked by floor-to-ceiling windows and a galley with polarized-glass walls to guests can watch the chef(s) prepare the meals. An upper deck has a spa, massage room, sauna and a sensory shower.

The accommodations spread across all four decks, with six en suite cabins for 12 guests. The massive owner’s suite is designed like a seaside villa and includes a terrace. The entire interior is done in hues of champagne and platinum-gray, with lots of leather, bronze, platinum and gold-metallic surfaces.

We don’t have any information about the power, but Tecnomar says This Is It has a top speed of 19 knots and a range of 3,500 nm at 10 knots.
