Wally just launched its new 50 with the builder’s elegant, minimalist and uber-clean lines at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The latest Wally, called the wallypower50, comes in two versions, one powered by twin 480-hp Volvo IPS pod drives, the other by four 400-hp Mercury Verado outboards, with four 500-hp Mercury Racing outboards as upgrades.

Wally was not shy about touting the importance of the new 50. Indeed, Stefano de Vivo, the company’s managing director, said “The wallypower50 sets a new standard for being flexible, practical, dynamic and – of course – iconic. It is the  ultimate example of the evolution of the species.”

With its sharp, angular lines and its deep-V, double-chine hull, the wallypower50 is a dynamic and seaworthy boat. It’s also versatile, serving as everything from a glamorous day boat, a weekender or even as a chase boat for a megayacht.

Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and now chief designer, says its wide range and its “ultimate style make it another milestone launch for Wally.”

All the way aft, two separate sun pads are an inviting social area, and wings drop down from the aft bulwarks to create an additional 64 square feet of space. There’s seating for eight under the coachroof, plus two more on forward-facing bench seats.

Below, a large space with a couch opens to the forward cabin with a double bed and a head with a separate shower. Natural light flows in from overhead. For more light, Wally’s optional Magic Portholes use video cameras outside to provide sweeping views to screens mounted below; the idea is that with the Magic Portholes the boat does not require real portholes that would interrupt the design of the hull sides.

Standard power on the wallypower50 comes from the twin Volvos, providing a top speed of 36 knots and a range of 280 nm at a cruising speed of 30 knots. The Volvo IPS system includes a joystick for fingertip control over low-speed maneuvering and docking.

With the 400-hp Mercury Verados, the top speed is 48 knots, and the range is 330 nm at a cruising speed of 34 knots. The 500-hp Mercury Racing outboards produce a top speed of 54 knots and a range of 300 nm at a cruising speed of 36 knots.

Wally was founded in Monaco by Bassani in 1994, and it quickly won a series of awards for its stunning designs of both sail and power boats. The Ferretti Group bought Wally in 2019.
