The new Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air was just launched at Lago di Garda in northern Italy for the first time. The innovative new 28-foot electric runabout uses powertrain technology from Porsche’s all-electric Macan, which is still under development.
The Frauscher x Porsche comes with 400 kW of electric power and has a top speed of 46 knots. At its optimum cruising speed of 22 knots, the lithium-ion battery with a 100 kWh capacity lasts about an hour; the battery also comes from the Macan.
The boat uses 80-volt technology for fast charging. The battery can be charged with more than 250 kW of DC current at fast-charging DC stations; it takes less than 30 minutes to charge to 80 percent. It also can be charged from household high-voltage sockets. An 11-kW AC charger is built into the boat.
Like Porsche cars, the Fantom Air has pre-programmed driving modes, in this case Docking, Range, Sport, and Sport Plus. The different modes change the throttle response and set different speed limits. In the Docking mode, for example, the speed is limited to 8 knots.
The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is based on Frauscher’s existing 858 day cruiser; it’s 28’ 4” long with an 8’ 1” beam. It can hold nine passengers. A large sunlounge is aft. The cockpit seats are covered with artificial leather and are protected by a low windshield reminiscent of Porsche’s iconic 911. The side ends of the tinted, frameless windshield are designed as winglets (think 911) and serve as grab handles.
The high-gloss helm was designed by Studio F. A. Porsche and the Porsche-like steering wheel has an artificial leather rim. The two front seats, also from the Porsche Studio, have raised backrests, integrated headrests and an embroidered crest.
The Frauscher yard in Austria will build just 25 of the new boats in its first run, delivering them next year. Starting price is about $595,700.
