Boston Boatworks has unveiled plans for its second Offshore Express model, a 44-footer, powered by twin Volvo D6s with Aquamatic Drives. It’s already started work on the first two hulls at its factory in Charlestown, Massachusetts.

The new 44 comes a few months after Boston Boatworks introduced its first Offshore Express, a 52, made for an owner-operator. The Offshore Express series was designed by Doug Zurn, the Marblehead, Massachusetts, naval architect who’s worked with Boston Boatworks on several other boats in recent years, while Winch Design, the London firm that usually works on superyachts, has done the interiors.

Boston Boatworks has built more than 350 boats in the past 27 years, starting with high-tech sailboats. It uses state-of-the-art composite construction techniques to build fast, light, seaworthy power and sail yachts.

It will build the BB Offshore Express series with a limited-run composite technology similar to a custom build. The 44 is designed for cruising couples or small families. The almost-queen-sized bed in the owner’s stateroom slides aft for changing. The tables in the pilothouse lower to serve as double beds at night.

Owners can order the 44 with a single or twin layout. A U-shaped galley is to port below with an L-shaped settee and dinette to starboard. A U-shaped settee and dinette are aft of the helm in the pilothouse. In the cockpit, there’s an L-shaped settee with a dinette table for relaxing and entertaining, with access to the large swim platform from both sides.

The BB 44 measures 49’3” LOA, with a beam of 14’10”. It will have a cruising speed of 32 knots, a top speed of 36 knots, and a range of 325 nm.

For its part, the 52 (pictured) is the same idea as the 44, but larger. It has two layouts, both with two heads below. In one layout, the master stateroom is forward with a lounge and galley below. In the second layout, the master is below with a second, guest, cabin, and the galley is up.

The 52 measures 56’9” LOA, with a beam of 16’3″. With twin Volvo D6s, it has a top speed of 30 knots and a range of 332 nm. With three Volvo D6s, top speed jumps to 38 knots.
