Sporty Azimut S7 Makes U.S. Debut

Azimut is introducing its sleek, sporty and sophisticated 71-foot S7 to the U.S. market this week at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

The upscale Italian yard says the S7, powered by three 800-hp Volvo IPS1050 pod drives, is an eco-sport yacht, since it uses 30 percent less fuel, and produces 30 percent fewer emissions, than a shaft-driven boat of the same size. It has a top speed of 35 knots and a cruising speed of 27 knots.

Azimut has used a lot of carbon fiber in the superstructure and the flybridge of the S7 to reduce weight and lower the center of gravity. It also has carbon fiber in the fold-down swim platform. In fact, Azimut has used so much carbon fiber lately that it bought the factory that supplied it.

The profile of the S7 is slender and dynamic, with large, arched glazing in the superstructure and cutout bulwarks that feed light to the interior. The interior, by Yachtique, an Italian boutique designer, is light, open, and sophisticated. The galley and dinette are forward in the salon, so that the entertainment area aft flows easily into the cockpit (when the full-width sliding glass doors are open). A second dining and entertaining area is in the cockpit. An eight-person terrace is on the foredeck.

From the salon, an off-center spiral staircase leads down to the four cabins below. The luxurious master stateroom is full beam amidships with large windows on both sides ; the head has a smoked glass shower. The VIP cabin is forward with a double bed and en suite  head. Two double cabins are a bit aft.

Azimuts are sold in the U.S. by MarineMax.
