EPropulsion Launches X40 Electric Outboard

EPropulsion just launched their new X40 electric outboard at the Fort Lauderdale show. The new clean, quiet and powerful outboard delivers 40 kW of power; the company says that’s the equivalent of a 60-hp gas-powered outboard.

The new X40 weighs just 218 pounds, much less than comparable traditional outboards. It uses proprietary algorithms with more than 20 variables to produce efficient hydrodynamic power to the prop, resulting in a smooth ride that uses less energy than gas outboards.

The X40’s compact design integrates electric steering, power trim/tilt, an electric control unit and a motor controller into a single unit. Its modular design takes up less room on the transom than a traditional outboard. It is built with frequency-resonance isolation and vibration-dampening technology so it is both more quiet and produces less vibration than gas outboards.

Built for the marine environment, the X40 uses a 96-volt battery that’s safe and waterproof and has a service life of 5,000 hours. It has a top speed of 22 mph with a running time of one hour; at 7.8 mph, running time is four hours.

A built-in Connectivity Service shows real-time battery status, advanced monitoring and trip-tracking.

The X40 is compatible with a wide range of accessories, including ePropulsion Smart Throttle, Digital Helm, Smart Display, battery charger and solar charger. The X40s are made in China.
