Hunt Delivers New Ocean 63 Cruiser

Hunt Yachts has delivered its latest Ocean 63 series to its new owner, with a custom galley since the owner represents the third generation of chefs.

The Hunt 63 is a popular boat. The latest, named Lady B, is hull number three, and four more are under construction.

They all share the same basic Hunt envelope and propulsion, but otherwise they are custom built to suit each owner. In this case, cooking is a family affair, and Lady B is the first 63 to have the galley up in the deckhouse. It runs the full length of the deckhouse on the port side, so there’s room for everyone. In addition, there’s an open pantry below that’s almost as large as a second galley, with plenty of stowage and four fridge/freezer drawers, a second sink and a microwave.

As with all Hunt 63s, power for the Lady B comes from twin 985-hp Volvo IPS1350 pod drives, producing a cruising speed of 26 knot and a top speed of 31 knots.

The Lady B is marked by Hunt’s classic Down East profile with a long sheer and Hunt’s iconic deep-V hull for offshore performance and comfort in almost all sea conditions. Deadrise is 20 degrees at the transom. C. Raymond Hunt developed that deep-V hull more than 60 years ago, and Ray Hunt Design, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, uses updated iterations of it on all Hunts today.

The Hunt 63 is designed to American Bureau of Shipping certification, and it has the same hull design and handling characteristics as the military and pilot ships that Ray Hunt designs now. They are all made for blue-water sea kindliness and performance.

Specs.: LOA: 69’6”; Beam: 18’; Draft: 4’2”; Disp.: 87,000 lbs.; Fuel: 1,070 gals.; Water: 300 gals.; Power: 2×985-hp Volvo IPS1350 pod drives.
