SilverYachts Building Scandinavian-Designed Cat

Tillberg Design of Sweden just unveiled the new SilverCat 22M semi-custom power catamaran, now being built in SilverYachts’ plant in China.

Tillberg Design of Sweden (TDoS) dates to 1964, when it first started designing interiors for ocean liners. Over the years, it has worked primarily on cruise ships and larger personal super yachts. For the new 72-foot SilverCat 22M it collaborated with the Norwegian yacht designer Espen Øino, perhaps best known for designing Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s 413-foot superyacht Octopus.

The new SilverCat is a bit smaller, of course, but its 35’4” beam provides lots of space for creative design inside and out, as well as creating a stable platform for comfortable cruising. The cat has accommodations for up to eight guests in four staterooms, plus a cabin for two crew. The large outdoor spaces have room for large dining tables and super-sized sun lounges.

The interior has a Scandinavian flavor, with bold colors, an open deck plan, and lots of loose furniture so owners can move things around as they wish. The interior design brief for TDoS was to think outside the box. As a result, there are elements of beige on beige, for example, instead of the traditional beige on white.

The hull is aluminum for light weight and the two hulls are relatively slender so they slice through the water with a minimum of resistance; they also are fuel efficient.

The SilverCat has two diesel engines with a total of 800 hp and a top speed of 20 knots. SilverYachts has been making larger power cats at its yard in Perth, Australia.
