New Linssen 35 SL: A Couple’s Cruiser

Linssen Yachts, the family firm that’s been building steel boats in The Netherlands since 1949, just launched their new 35 SL couple’s cruiser. Powered by a single 75-hp Volvo diesel, the new 35 SL (for Sport Lux) with a displacement hull has a top speed of 8 knots.

There’s nothing fancy about this latest Linssen, or previous Linssens either. They’re solid, functional, user-friendly cruising boats, made for coastal waterways or the canals and rivers of Europe and anywhere else. It doesn’t take a big leap to envision the Linssen 35 SL anywhere on the Great Loop, for example.

The boat is laid up with 5 mm steel construction below the waterline, and 4 mm above. That’s all coated with Awlgrip to resist corrosion.

For safety, the Linssen 35 SL has lots of grab rails, deep toe rails, and stainless side rails that run from the bow to the cockpit. The aft cockpit is protected by an extension of the coachroof overhead, and can be wrapped up with canopies. An L-shaped seat is there, as well as the door to the swim platform.

The salon has U-shaped seating, probably comfortable for four people, in  the starboard side, with a table that also can be moved to the cockpit. The galley and storage are on the port side The helm has a carbon-fiber dash. A sunroof opens overhead, and windows all around provide excellent visibility.

Below, the single cabin is in the bow, with a queen-sized bed, a hanging locker, and a head with a shower.

The base price is about $420,000, making the new 35-foot Linssen relatively affordable to own as well as to operate.
