Flexjet has just started helicopter service from Florida to the Bahamas, making it easy to fly to and from your charter or your cruising boat in the islands.
On one of the company’s Sikorsky S-76 helicopters, you can fly from Miami to Bimini in 25 minutes, or from Palm Beach to Baker’s Bay in the Abacos in an hour and 20 minutes. That means you could get back for an important business meeting, for example, or a wedding, or a medical procedure, and return to the islands easily without a major interruption in your cruising schedule.
Flexjet won approval for the flights after taking some runs in August. It wanted to start the service before the busy winter travel season. Flexjet already offered on-demand charter service in Florida, the northeast, and the United Kingdom.
“As people move their residences to Florida for the season, demand for our Florida helicopter service will increase, including travel from Florida to the Bahamas,” said Eli Flint, president of Flexjet’s helicopter division. “With our authorization in place, those trips to the Bahamas can happen in privacy, luxury, and on their schedule. We have already identified tailored landing zones in areas important to our customers.”
For the Bahamas trips, Flexjet flies Sikorsky S-76 helicopters, which it says are particularly safe for flights over the ocean because of their twin engines, high cruising speed and long range. The helicopters have seats for eight people and they have a maximum range of 2 hours and 30 minutes. They can carry 38 cubic feet of baggage.
The helicopters always have two experienced and certified pilots. The design includes many safety redundancies, including two engines, two autopilot systems, a four-blade main rotor and emergency floatation gear built onto the aircraft.
Flexjet entered the recreational jet ownership market in 1995 and started the helicopter division in 2022, using the Sikorsky S-76s. They have registered 55,000 hours of safe flying. The Flexjet helicopter division sells fractional shares and leases of the helicopters, plus on-demand service.
