Arksen, the smart and ambitious new kid on the block in the expedition yacht neighborhood, just keeps growing.

It’s finishing its flagship 85 on the Isle of Wight in Great Britain; it also has a 75 and a 65 in its Explorer series. It makes small boats too, introducing its 28 and 32 to the U.S. market at the Palm Beach show last March.

Now it just announced that it’s starting a new Arksen 8 Discovery series of what it calls offshore open adventure boats, sturdy RIBs that are 26’ 2” long and have seats for 12. Available with single or twin outboards from 300 to 500 hp, the Arksen 8s have an Category B offshore rating and a range of 350 nm.

They are built with lots of internal space for maximum utility, using the RIB’s 9’ 5” beam. There are seating areas on the bow and aft, with stowable tables. A head compartment in the console has an electric toilet and a holding tank. For relaxing, there’s a wet bar with a sink and a wine cooler. A Kenyon barbeque with an inverter is optional.

Other options include a fiberglass hardtop with a canvas opening, a canvas cockpit enclosure, joystick maneuvering, and three color schemes. Arksen also will offer the 8 in an Explorer Tender configuration (pictured), made to order to serve an expedition yacht.

Arksen is the brainchild of Jasper Smith, a high-tech entrepreneur who founded Playjam, the games network. He wanted to build environmentally friendly expedition yachts capable of cruising rough waters anywhere in the world. He also created an in-house Explorers’ Club to provide logistical support to help owners start their own adventures.
