Popular Prestige 520: Still Going Strong

Ever since it was first introduced at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2017, the Prestige 520 flybridge motoryacht has been one of the French builder’s most popular models.

Taking a good look at the newest 520, continually updated through the years, helps to understand why. The Prestige 520 is an elegant, comfortable, easy-to-handle cruiser, with separate social areas in almost every direction. The salon, with an aft galley that serves the cockpit as well as the flybridge, has large windows that provide views all around. In the salon, says Camillo Garroni, of Garroni Design in Genoa, who designed the yacht, “you feel like you’re on an island.”

The master stateroom, full-beam amidships, is reached by a private staircase leading down from the salon. It’s large and bright, with large windows and opening hatches; it has a walk-in closet popular with wives and women owners.

The other two cabins, a VIP in the bow and a guest cabin with two beds, are reached by a companionway. They share a head and shower. There’s a small fourth cabin under the cockpit, with a berth and head; If you don’t want the extra sleeping space, that area can be the garage for a tender.

The cockpit has an L-shaped settee and table and is protected by the overhang from the flybridge. Wide glass doors open to the salon, all on the same level. Moving around the Prestige 520 is safe and easy. Another door next to the helm opens to the starboard side deck. High stainless steel railings make it safe to walk forward, where a supersized sun pad on the bow can be protected by a cabana-style Bimini.

Up top, the flybridge has the upper helm with seating for two on the port side. A large sun lounge, with adjustable backrest, is opposite to starboard. Aft, a U-shaped settee surrounds a table for cocktails or dining.

Standard power comes from twin 480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives, making maneuvering joystick-easy from the lower or upper helm stations. A third station is optional in the cockpit. The 520 cruises at 22 knots and tops out at abut 26 knots.

Prestige is part of the worldwide Beneteau Group.
